As a Control System Engineer, you will be a hands-on Engineer. You will plan, document and manage the maintenance and modification of all software and SCADA systems at client sites, utilising site asset management systems and regulatory requirements where applicable. You must be Health and safety focused, and will also support all new projects at client sites.
You will be responsible for the acceptance of all PLC / SCADA / DCS / ESD systems design throughout the project lifecycle, from detailed design (FDS, C&E, IO Schedules) to system verification and validation (FAT / SAT). Depending upon the project size the works could be undertaken by subcontractors however, you will be responsible for requesting the correct documentation and data required for the site maintenance system and compliance to site and regulatory standards. You must be flexible to adapt to work with all different kinds of projects at various stages of their life cycle predominately located at customer sites however, there may be occasion to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.
Your work would typically involve:
Reactive maintenance on PLC, based automation, control and safety related process system activities Development of the site SCADA systems and their maintenance, working closely with the site IT department Investigate and identify defects, isolate the effected equipment, install new items and return the system to operational condition. Ownership of compliance Participate in the design process and implement modification to improve the efficiency and reliability of the plant system. To work with the Process/Project team to ensure projects are formally closed off on completion FAT installation attendance and approval of vendor FAT procedures/documentation, from handover to commissioning implementation Call out attendance Prepare site documentation and assistance Ensure all projects adhere to Health and Safety legislation; Adhering to all customer policies and procedures. Work with site functional safety engineer to ensure compliance with BS EN 61508/61511 for programmable logic solvers
Hours and Environment: Your working hours could vary according to the type of project you are working on. Your typical hours would be 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, although you may need to work longer when deadlines are approaching. You would usually be office-based, but may spend some of your time attending meetings or visiting contractors and suppliers. Some projects may involve travel and spending time away from home. Flexible approach to working hours and your role is essential.

Education and Training: You will be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas: PLC controls systems, (hardware and software) SCADA systems DCS ESD Fire and Gas Detection systems Data communications Network Serial data communications and Modbus
Knowledge or suitable training in the following would be advantageous : AutoCAD, Siemens/Allen Bradley/Omron, The requirements of BS EN 61508/61511 for Programmable Logic Solvers, Cyber Security, HAZOP/PHR/LOPA, COMAH
